Symposium considers future of legal education

Academicians, business leaders, judiciary members and a key watchdog group will discuss the future of legal education at “The Law School in the New Legal Environment Symposium” at the School of Law Friday, Oct. 26. The symposium will examine issues such as affordability and access; faculty; preparation for practice; job placement; and online education.

Daily bath for ICU patients cuts infections 44 percent

A major study in hospital intensive care units  shows that bathing patients daily with an antimicrobial soap and applying antibiotic ointment inside the nose reduced by 44 percent the bloodstream infections, including the drug-resistant bacteria MRSA.

Service First volunteers brighten St. Louis public schools

WUSTL volunteers painted bleachers at University City High School Oct. 13 as part of Service First. Through this annual community service event, organizers work with principals of KIPP: Inspire Academy and St. Louis and University City public schools to identify areas of need.

Faculty play at American Arts Experience Oct. 21

Three faculty from the Department of Music in Arts & Sciences will join a string quartet from the St. Louis Symphony for the concluding concert of the 2012 American Arts Experience-St. Louis. The program features works by Copland and Gershwin as well as by Antonín Dvorák, who played a prominent role in encouraging American composers.

Volleyball tied for No. 1

The No. 1 women’s volleyball team finished the regular-season University Athletic Association schedule by posting a 3-1 record at the second UAA Round
Robin Saturday and Sunday in Pittsburgh. WUSTL finished in a three-way tie for first with Emory and Chicago in the UAA standings, all posting 6-1 records in conference play. The UAA championship is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, in Atlanta.
